Tumbleweed Fine Artists

JOLENE MACKIE FINE ART

Jolene Mackie, a talented artist based in Kelowna, BC, has dedicated herself to the art of oil painting since earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Emily Carr University in 2009. Her artistry has been showcased extensively across the Okanagan Valley and British Columbia, earning her a place in private collections worldwide. Jolene draws inspiration from the beauty of everyday life, capturing fleeting moments of light, shadow shapes, and the vibrant colors that enrich our daily experiences. Her work beautifully merges a fascination with the world's natural wonders with the whimsy of human imagination, creating truly unique visual narratives.

From bespoke pieces to curated collections, Jolene's paintings embody the essence of creation as much as the finished artwork itself. She favors oil paints for their slow-drying nature, finding the process meditative and contemplative. In 2017, Jolene was honored with the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan Visual Arts award, recognizing the visceral impact of her work.

Jolene's art is crafted to provoke contemplation and introspection in its viewers, evoking memories or aspirations for the future. Her goal is to create a moment of pause, encouraging viewers to revel in the magic of the present rather than dwelling on the past or future. She believes in the transformative power of art, both in its creation and appreciation, seeking to capture the essence of life's fleeting beauty in every brushstroke.

PATRICIA GRACE FINE ART

She creates vibrant and expressive paintings that capture the beauty and diversity of nature, using acrylic as her medium. Her style showcases stylized landscapes which incorporates elements of texture, collage, and symbolism into her compositions. Her paintings reflect her passion for the environment, spirituality, and personal growth, and invite the viewer to explore their own connection to the world and more.

MARIANNE MEYER FINE ART

Marianne Meyer was  born and raised in Switzerland. She has been living in BC's Okanagan Valley since 2000.  Like many she started out in a realistic manner, but soon wanted more freedom to express emotions - and to be able to throw around vibrant colours in wild experimentation. The resulting free, abstract compositions were more to her liking. For Marianne, textures  and images emerge spontaneously and seduce her to go further.

Part of her development as an artist includes studying the work of others, especially of contemporary artists. Her work is usually a combination of mark making, drawings and layered paint. Acrylic paints, charcoal and art pencils are her preferred media.

My work is always changing which gives me the pleasure to experiment and to move forward. I work and rework my paintings until I reach the point when I feel that they express just the right amount of layering, structure and depth. The final colour constellations invite the viewer to find his or her own personal experience of my pieces. I believe that that's what art should do.

CAROL MUNRO FINE ART

Carol Munro is a Canadian artist living in Penticton, British Columbia. Her art is influenced by the nature and geography of her surroundings in the Okanagan Valley. “There is a persistent whisper of things not-quite-seen, but powerful--- forces and presences which are oddly familiar at some deep animal level within us. It is this sense of cycles --- of movement, recurrence and belonging that I work to record when I put my mark on the paper or the canvas.”

Carol's impressive works if art cross paths with multiple mediums such as 3D wearable art, digital paintings, encaustic and mixed media paintings, monotypes and dimensional pieces involving handmade paper.

Psst… We have a variety Carol's 3D Wearable art pieces on display at the Tumbleweed

DIANE DE ROO FINE ART

Diane De Roo is a botanical artist known for her unique style. Using vegetables, herbs, and flowers from her cottage garden, she creates show-stopping wall hangings. With over 30 years of experience, Diane has developed drying, pressing, and casting techniques to capture the beauty of her plants.

In her pressed work, Diane creates paper-thin slices of her subjects using a razor, preserving roots, stems, and seeds. She has perfected a process to press and dry these cross-sections for use in her art, showcasing the vivid colors, varied textures, and delicate details of each vegetable.

In her latest collection, Diane focuses on traditional herbarium specimens as art, which has inspired her cast pieces. She meticulously transfers the veins, tendrils, and flowers of her plants into a clay mold, encasing them in plaster medium. Her botanical relief tiles feature intertwined leaves, herbs, and flowers, reminiscent of a free-flowering cottage garden.

Inspired by her backyard oasis and her love for nurturing plants, Diane aims to draw viewers in and surprise them with the intricate beauty of each piece. Her work has been showcased in juried artisan shows across Canada and exhibited in local boutiques, shops, and galleries.

ANNE-MARIE HARVEY

FINE ART

Anne-Marie Harvey's artistic journey is nothing short of exhilarating! For 23 years, she honed her craft as a self-taught artist, painting the rugged landscapes of northern British Columbia and the Yukon in oils. Living in a remote area accessible only by bush plane, Anne-Marie and her artist husband raised their three children amidst the dynamic and inspiring northern wilderness, where the transformative light became her greatest teacher.

In 1984, Anne-Marie embarked on a new chapter, moving to the west coast and diving into the world of watercolors. This medium presented a new and exciting challenge, one that Anne-Marie embraced with fervor. Over time, she mastered watercolors, leading to success and recognition through numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Anne-Marie's artistic journey continued to evolve as she transitioned to acrylics and eventually to mixed media, which captivated her creativity for a significant period. Recently, she has revisited her roots, picking up her oil paints once more, reigniting her passion for this classic medium. Now, she delights in painting the Okanagan landscape with a fresh perspective, blending old techniques with new and liberating approaches learned from her experience with watercolors and acrylics.

Not only skilled in landscapes, but Anne-Marie's talent also extends to painting people. Her ability to capture the essence of her subjects won her acclaim, including being selected as the cover artist and illustrator for the Advocate, a law magazine for B.C. and the Yukon. Her cover portraits, created with a single interview, expertly capture the spirit of each individual, showcasing her exceptional talent.

While Anne-Marie teaches part-time for the Federation of Canadian Artists, her true passion lies in painting, where she continuously strives to express her love for simplicity and color. In 2006, Anne-Marie and her husband Chris realized a dream, purchasing land on the Naramata Bench in the Okanagan. Here, they planted Riesling grapes, built a beautiful home, and a bright new studio for Anne-Marie, where they now live, create, make music, and of course, enjoy the fruits of their labor, living happily ever after in their own piece of paradise.

INGRID WINKLER FINE ART

I grew up in a small town in Germany with a deep passion for drawing. After completing my public schooling, I pursued technical drawing education, leading to a successful career in architecture. However, in 1978, I decided to shift my focus to my growing family, leaving my architectural career to dedicate more time to my creative pursuits.

This decision marked a turning point in my artistic journey. I exchanged the drawing-board for an easel and embraced a new approach to art, guided by my mentor ALN Mondry. Mondry taught me to see the essence of my subjects, emphasizing freedom in color, form, and material over strict realism and detail.

In 1993, my family and I immigrated to Canada, settling in the picturesque town of Summerland. Surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Okanagan Valley, my work naturally shifted to focus on capturing its beauty.

The Okanagan's landscapes, with their distinct outlines, colors, and contrasts between barrenness and abundance, became my primary inspiration. Using various techniques and mixed media, I aim to simplify the landscape, distilling its essence and intensifying its beauty.

Since 1996, my artwork has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in both public and commercial galleries. My artistic journey continues to evolve, driven by a deep appreciation for the natural world and a desire to capture its beauty on canvas.
